Meet the Founder
Reverend Lori Person-Baynard, MPA, MTS
Lori is a change-maker and is committed to advocating for justice and equity for the community as a whole and for Black women and girls in particular. She exemplifies her personal motto:
"The highest courage is to dare to be oneself in the face of adversity, choosing right over wrong, ethics over convenience, and truth over popularity; these are the choices that measure your life." (Anonymous)
For the past 21 years, Lori has served the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. (AKA). In 1992, she chartered the Central New Jersey Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women to promote gender equity in health, education, and economic empowerment locally. From 2020-2024, she served as Chairperson of the Connection and Social Action Committee, where she addressed the over-incarceration of Black people and its complex negative effects on the community. In 2024, Lori was named Theta Pi Omega Chapter's #GenNext for "amplifying women's voices."
Lori also served as a child advocate at the Burlington County courts to advocate for children who have been abused or neglected. She investigated cases, recommended a course of action, facilitated resolutions, monitored progress toward established goals, and collaborated with children, families, and youth services to advocate for the children's best interests.
Ordained in 2004, Lori also serves the community as a pastoral advocate and currently serves as the Chairperson of Advocacy for the Women of Color in Ministry, where she helps support women in receiving equal pay in ministry and addressing cases of inequity among clergy.
In her position as Affiliate Faculty and Director of the Leadership and Development Program at Eastern University (2012-2017), Lori not only educated students in and from seven African countries and Australia but also advocated for them when the need arose. In 2020, Eastern University named Lori a "Social Justice Leader to Watch."
From 2019-2022, Lori served as the Director of Theology and Public Policy of Salvation and Social Justice, where she wrote and contributed to several campaigns and direct-action programs to decriminalize drugs. In 2021, Lori was appointed by the county commissioner to the Burlington County Minority Equality Rights Taskforce in southern New Jersey to combat systemic racism.
Beyond New Jersey, Lori committed to advocating for women and girls worldwide. She has been representing Athletes for Justice at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women for over a decade. And with over 25 years of advocacy and policy experience, Lori founded the African American Public Policy & Advocacy Group in 2022 to continue the work locally and globally that distinguished AKA and Eastern University.
Her service does not end there: In November 2025, Lori was elected to the Westampton School Board in New Jersey.
